Ozymandias

"My maker told his tale? Then I will tell you mine."

Guillermo Del Toro did an absolutely incredible job with this story, which was both the biggest surprise and the biggest frustration of my teenage years.
I was on the train, finally reading this famous novel that everyone knew because of what Hollywood made of it. But as the train ran along the shores of Lake Geneva (Switzerland), I almost jumped out of my seat when I read Mary Shelley's description of the creature's path, which was exactly the one I was taking. Between Geneva, the lake, Versoix, Coppet, Chamonix... Frankenstein was born here, in the region where I grew up, and NO ONE TALKED ABOUT IT in school or elswere. Only a “life-size” sculpture of the creature had been erected in the Place de Plainpalais in Geneva, where it wanders in the book... but nothing more. Since then, I feel like I have an invisible connection to this story. I am lucky to have seen what she saw, and the places that inspired Mary have also had an incredible impact on me and my art. I am happy to finally see someone paying a worthy cinematic tribute to this iconic story.
